Check out 5 of the most memorable and tweetable moments from the 2015 BET Awards.

1. Kendrick Lamar

The rapper opened up the show with his latest single, “Alrite” from his album To Pimp A Butterfly. In the powerful performance, he address police brutality as he stood atop a vandalized police car. The performance may have also been a nod to the importance of removing the Confederate Flag in South Carolina as a large American flag flew behind him. Lamar later won “Best Male Hip Hop Artist” and was congratulated by his fiancee, Whitney Alford.

2. P. Diddy

The music mogul and founder of REVOLT took us back to the 90s when he was a rapper in a shiny suit named Puff Daddy. In celebration of Bad Boy Records’ 20th year anniversary, Puff brought out 112, Mase, Faith Evans, the Lox and of course Lil Kim who made a grand entrance worthy of the queen bee! Puff later fell into the hole that was used to elevate Kim on stage. We’re sure he went home and iced his back but one fall didn’t stop the show! Eventually, Puff got up and kept dancing! Bring back the 90s!

3. Janet Jackson

She’s BAACCCCKKK! Everything else in the evening seemed like a filler performance as fans patiently awaited the return of Janet Jackson. Ciara, Tinashe and Jason Derulo gave their all in the short tribute that could have used at least 2 to 3 more performances in homage to the living legend! What would have been epic is a surprise performance by Jennifer Lopez who was a background dancer in Jackson’s 1993 video, “That’s The Way Love Goes”

Despite the qualms with the tribute and Jackson herself not performing, we were happy to see her looking effortlessly beautiful when she took the stage to accept her Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award.

4. Smokey Robinson

Diddy was visibly shaken and stirred following his fall. He repeatedly flubbed while reading the teleprompter before presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Smokey Robinson. The artist’s tribute included performances by Robin Thicke (where has he been?) Ne-Yo and upcoming artist, Tori Kelly.

With a career spanning over fifty years, Robinson’s acceptance speech filled with advice for new artists nearly moved the audience to tears.  “…There are so many people in this world who wish they had one person who they felt love them. And for you to become hearty and self-absorbed because millions of people around the world, most of them you’ll never know or never meet, love you, it’s so ridiculous. You should be thankful. It’s a blessing.”

5. Terrence Howard

The evening included several odes to Empire, one of the most popular TV shows in recent history. Bryshere Gray aka Hakeem Lyon performed his hit song, “Drip Drop” while Jussie Smollett aka Jamal Lyon celebrated the win for marriage equality in his performance. But it wouldn’t be an evening without Lucious Lyon taking the stage and last night, there were two Lyon’s and only one Cookie!

Anthony Anderson dawned a pompadour and smokers jacket while Tracee Ellis Ross did her best impression of Taraji P. Henson in a floor length fur coat. Anderson claimed to be the real Lucious Lyon because he had “good” straight hair! Terrence Howard made a surprise appearance during their spoof and said he had to stop perming his hair because it caused bald spots! Hilarious! Howard later won the BET award for Best Male Actor.
