I hit the swanky Vanquish lounge for another fabulous event sponored by Courvoiser Gold and hosted by Rocsi Diaz, formerly of BET’s 106 & Park. The occasion: an intimate evening with Roc Nation diva-on-the-rise Bridget Kelly. A few ATL stars like Nicci Gilbert (she may not be returning to the TV One reality show but she’ll always be an R&B Diva to us!) and her husband were in the crowd. Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Peter Thomas also made an appearance but unfortunately there was no Cynthia Bailey sighting.
Bridget opened her set and got the crowd moving with a tribute to her hometown of NYC covering a bit of Alicia Keys and Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” and mixing in a little Marsha Ambrosius and some Lauryn Hill before getting into her own debut track “Every Girl.” Fun songs from her latest release were performed like the oh so familiar tale of “In the Morning” (you know that phone call you should not have made after one too many spirits the night before and you regret it IN THE MORNING? GUILTY! But I digress…). I’m officially hooked on Ms. Kelly! I give the soul stirring R&B songstress a big old CocoaFab “A” for her performance.
We hated that Sanaa Lathan, who was supposed to host, was MIA due to illness but Rocsi held it down on her birthday no less and even gave me the scoop on what’s next for her career path, her love for her former co-host Terrance J (who’s now representing as co-anchor on E! News) and her best wishes for the new hosts of 106 & Park.
