California Honors Rapper Kendrick Lamar with Icon Award

Multi-platinum selling recording artist, two time Grammy Award winner and Compton native, Kendrick Lamar was recently honored by the State of California for his philanthropic work in his community. Senator and fellow Compton native, Isadore Hall II, admirably presented Lamar with the “Generational Icon Award” in recognition of the thousands of dollars that Lamar has given to fund after school programs, sports programs and music education within the Compton Unified School District.

Lamar shares his gratitude for the honor in saying, “I’ve always thought how great the opportunity would be to be able to give back to my community from what I do with music…To be able to do that from a city all the way up to a state standpoint and have these young kids look at me as an inspiration is an honor.
