LeToya Luckett returned to the screen for the fourth installment of Centric’s Single Ladies; flexing her business acumen as the flawless, yet gritty music exec Felicia Price.
The former Destiny’s Child star says you can expect Felicia to continue to be a bit bougie, but the woman who rules with an iron fist will also be a little more tender this season.
Letoya tells CocoaFab:
“I appreciate her as a business woman, I appreciate her as a strong woman. A lot of people don’t know how to accept a woman in that power seat sometimes and she just demands her respect. That’s just who she is,” she says about her character Felicia.
LeToya admits: “l Iove playing her. In fact, she’s made me– LeToya– a more strong person, a more confident person through playing her.”
Single Ladies returned to TV, but this time the series aired on Centric, a BET channel after being dropped from VH-1.Â
The Grammy-award winner sits on her high-powered pedestal quite comfortably as the music mogul Felicia. LeToya also has several television projects in motion, dropped a new single, “Don’t Make Me Wait,” with T.I and has a new album on the way; she can do it all. Don’t dare put the multi-talented artist in a box either.
“There’s nothing wrong with being multi-talented. Back in the day, musicians weren’t just musicians, they were actors,” she said. “I mean, Gene Kelly could dance, act and sing. I hate it when people put a limit on people’s talent.”
When LeToya set out to secure a role on Single Ladies, there was no easy way in.
“I went into the audition just like everybody else,” she admits. “I went in with one role and came out with another..I didn’t go in to play Felicia but I came out with that role.” She feels “very, very blessed” to have this opportunity to continue to shine on-screen.
Felicia’s tough just like LeToya. “Felicia’s an entrepreneur as am I,” she said.
“I developed my own business, my boutique with my mother 10 years ago… from the ground up. Just like Felicia built her management company from the ground up. I think she has a different approach when it comes to her employees,” she says laughing.
When asked if Felicia is more like “Cookie” or “Boo-Boo Kitty” from the hit show Empire, LeToya admits,
“Felicia is definitely like Cookie but LeToya, she’s a combination of Cookie and Boo-Boo-Kitty. So I’m right down the middle with them.” LeToya admits in real life she can pop off like Cookie real quick, but she’s also very shy and composed.
Also congrats to LeToya for being cast in NBC’s pilot Love Is a Four Letter Word,  playing Tandi who has a son but longs to have another child with her boyfriend.
It sounds like a hot season with guest appearances by Nicole Ari Parker, Darrin Henson, Karrueche Tran and Sharon Leal.
