As the party girl of the Braxton bunch, Trina Braxton is never low on energy, wine and laughs. But for this upcoming season of WE tv’s “Braxton Family Values,” Trina assures us that we’ll see different sides of her, in fact, we’ll see a few sides. Depending on the wig she’s wearing and the day, we may catch the nurturing mom, sassy sister, and our favorite “Party Or Go Home” retro pop diva.
CocoaFab caught up with our favorite Braxton sister (shhh, don’t tell Toni) to get the skinny on her music career, what season 3 will bring, and those pesky Tamar baby rumors. (Hint: A lil’ Tamar might just be on the way!)
On what fans can expect:
“In season 3 you get to see a more intimate look at my life. You get to really see my children and you get to see me not just being the party girl. You see the entrepreneurial side of me and me being a real parent.
On her kids being on the show:
“I let my children choose whether they wanted to be on the show or not. When we first started filming they decided that they didn’t want to do it. They are now 17 and 14 years old and I had to bribe them this time around, to tell you the truth. They were like, ‘we’ll do it but you have to pay us.’ So yes, I pay them to be on the show, but they want to do it too. I guess they really are Braxtons. They know that business.”
On the status of her relationship with Gabe:
“As with any marriage or relationship, there are ups and downs. We continue to make progress and to learn about each other and take it one day at a time. We love each other though. Having our relationship out there for the world to see has its pros and its cons sometimes. The con portion of is that when you expose yourself you open yourself up to everyone else’s ideas and opinions. One of the things you have to do is just eat the fish and throw out the bones. But one of the pros is that you get to see your relationship from another angle. When you’re in it you cant really see it from a different perspective, but we watch ourselves and we watch the episodes. That really makes me take a step back and say, ‘Dang, I was talking crazy to Gabe.’ Or ‘Wow, I didn’t know I did that.’ I see what I contribute to our situation when I play it back. I have learned that I have to change how I say things. It’s made me a better wife and a better partner and a better sister and a better mother. Doing a reality show, people fail to realize that the cameras are only getting one hour every week into your life. It’s just a glimpse. Reality television is reality based, it’s not all the time. For our show, it’s very true but it’s a glimpse.”
On the drama between the sisters this season:
“Oh my gosh. Yes, I’m putting people on notice. When you grow up in such a tight-knit family, a lot of times people think that they have the right to say whatever they want to say because we’re all so close. And that is true to a certain degree. But when people start to have their own little family units and their own little ecosystems within our family, boundaries have to be set. That’s what me and my sisters are learning. Soften your tongue. We can be there for each other and support each other, but you can’t put your opinions on other people and expect them to go with what you’re saying just because that’s how you feel.”
On what will shock viewers this season:
“We have a real, true and honest sisterhood and that comes with a whole lotta stuff. Just like any other family we have our fights and not talking to each other and yelling it out. We have those crazy moments and those loving moments too. You’ll get a more intimate look at us now.”
On her music career:
“I am still working on the EP and I don’t want to give too much away because you’ll see it in season 3. Look forward to more music from me. I know people loved ‘Party or Go Home’ and so I’m coming with more of that. I know it’s time for a new single to come out. It’ll be pop-dance, high-energy music. Retro pop is me. One of the things that I struggle with is whether I should do a ballad because that’s what people expect from the Braxtons but I’m just so much more fun than that. So we’ll see. I may do just one, but it’s not my genre as Trina. I’m a retro-pop artist.”
On her love of Tamar’s single:
“When she first finished recording it and she let me listen to it, I made everyone listen to it like fifteen times in a row. I love it. It’s one of my favorites.”
On the rumors that Tamar is expecting:
“Well, I don’t know. It’s not my bun so I can’t say. [Laughing] We’ll just have to see, now won’t we. [Laughing] When Tamar becomes a mom, I think she’ll finally be more understanding of what the rest of us go through as parents. It’s going to be an eye opener for her and she’ll understand the rest of us more. But she’s going to spoil that kid rotten. Oh! And if she has a girl, she’ll be a little diva Tamar. But seriously, she’d be a great mom whenever the time comes.”
On her new look for season 3:
“I have gone through at least five different hair styles this season. I love to change it up. When I change my hair it changes how I feel. If I feel flirty, I put on ‘Jessica’. Or I’ll put on ‘Sandra’. I name all of my wigs for the different personalities. I had a burgundy bob, I had braids that were past my knees, of course ‘Jessica’. I change depending on my mood. Gabe loves it. He never knows what I’ll look like!”
