Idris Elba was rushed to hospital after suffering an asthma attack on an airplane bound for South Africa.
The 41-year-old actor had been due to fly to Johannesburg to attend a press conference for his new movie Mandela: A Long Walk of Freedom, but was instead rushed to hospital in the UK after having the attack.
‘Idris is in hospital after an asthma attack on the plane last night,’ the film’s producer Anant Singh told reporters at the press conference.
Thankfully, Idris recovered and walked the red carpet of the premiere last night in Johannesburg sporting a scruffy beard while mingling with Mandela’s second wife Winnie as well as his current wife Graca Machel. While his swag was reportedly subdued, we’re happy that he is recovering.
Former President Nelson Mandela was unable to attend the premiere but has reportedly given the piece his stamp of approval.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom opens in select theaters on November 29.
