After controversy arose last month over promotional pictures released of a seemingly lighter India Arie, the soul singer took the stage for the first time this year in Arizona and put the rumors to rest on Sunday. There’s been absolutely no skin lightening by the “Brown Skin” singer.
In fact, her skin couldn’t have looked more radiant as the singer wore an all-white ensemble and head wrap at the Arizona Jazz Festival, where Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton and Lalah Hathaway also took the stage. She performed all of her hits including her new single “Cooca Butter,” a love song about new, soothing love.
In a series of posts on Twitter addressing the controversy, she writes, “Personally speaking! i’m happy to say I have NOT BLEACHED my skin… 1. I wouldn’t endanger my health that way 2. i’m so in love with myself I have no DESIRE to BLEACH myself. Lol… 3. The GLOW you see IS (magnificent) lighting 4. THE LIGHT you see, Well thats all ME!!”
