Janet Jackson is taking control of her return to the music industry by launching her own record label, aptly named, Rhythm Nation.
According to a press release on Janet’s website, the living legend is making history as the first African American woman recording artist to have their own label.
Jackson’s new imprint is a partnership with distribution company BMG. What makes the new agreement truly historic is that under the terms of her “artist services dealâ€, Jackson will maintain ownership of her masters as well as full involvement in the costs and revenues of her various projects.
The singer plans to expand the Rhythm Nation roster and sign new acts as well as provide a home for already established artists.
According to Billboard, Jackson will be releasing new music to radio and online outlets within the next month!
