Celebrity chef, Paula Deen, 66, is known for her southern cooking and deep-fried everything. Now, a former employee is suing her and her brother, Earl ‘Bubba’ Heirs, for some seriously bad behavior.
Lisa Jackson, the former manager of Paula’s Savannah, Georgia restaurant has filed a $1.2 million lawsuit for sexual harassment and infliction of distress and assault.
In a deposition on May 17, Paula casually admitted she uses the N-word. “Yes, of course.”
When asked about making racist jokes, her response was equally unapologetic. “It’s just what they are — they’re jokes…most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks…I can’t determine what offends another person.”
She also copped to claims that her brother uses cocaine, is addicted to pornography and is an alcoholic!
She also defended her request to have employees act as slaves for a wedding she was planning. “The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie,” she said.
“I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America…after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War…It was not only black men, it was black women…I would say they were slaves.”
USA TODAY reported the following response from Deen’s attorney, Bill Franklin: “Contrary to media reports. Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable. She is looking forward to her day in court.”
