“It was very Diana Ross, very disco, Studio 54, big, big hair, lots of jewelry, earrings, all the stuff I like to wear†said Taraji P. Henson while on set shooting her new cover of Allure magazine.
In a behind the scenes video for the shoot, Henson looks back at how her hair styles have evolved over nearly two decades in the industry.
“Oh God, I had broken up with a boyfriend and I had to cut off all my hair, so that’s what I did†she says looking at a short pixie cut.
“That was my Hustle & Flow hair, that’s Shug’s hair, I loved myself that night†she says of the 2005 film that first brought she and her Empire co-star, Terrence Howard, together.
“The first time I went to the Oscars! By the end of the night, the bun was hanging to the side, Terrence loves to tell that story†she says.
That’s when I won ‘Entertainer Of The Year’ [at the NAACP Image Awards] I beat Beyonce! And nobody beats Beyonce but I did!â€
“Oh…I actually did my own hair for this one…I actually still have that braid in a drawer somewhere. That was before I could afford hair and makeup!â€
“I was Homecoming Queen, I didn’t think I was going to win so that was a very surprised look…I used to rock honey blonde, I was blonde before Beyonce.â€
