Startup Diary #9: Making Moves in 2014

As we prepare to close out the year Shelly and I have a lot to be thankful for during our first year in business. It’s been a tough road but also super rewarding and we can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for our startup. If I were to get a jumpstart on 2014 New Years resolutions for CMG they would look something like this: more partnerships, more video series, more traffic, more revenue, more help! And I’d also love to try to clone myself and Shelly but that’s probably going to take a while…

Here’s a sneak preview of the exciting plans we have for 2014 which is going out in our latest press release this week!

Cocoa Media Group (CMG), the fastest growing collection of premium digital destinations targeting young women of color, including and CocoaFab.TV and, added two A-list beauty veterans to their roster of contributors. Former Essence magazine beauty editors, and co-founders of The Beauty Beat Box, Tasha Turner and Marcia Caster have joined the CocoaStyle team to contribute beauty, skincare and hair care articles and video series to the site.

“We are so excited to join the Cocoa Media Group family and contribute to the growing success of the brand,” says Marcia Caster. “We look forward to working with Angela, Shelly and the rest of the talented team across their multiple platforms as we continue to do what we love most—helping women of color look and feel their very best.”

In addition, beginning in December, CMG will partner with The Beauty Beat Box for a 30-Day beauty giveaway to newsletter subscribers to celebrate their 1-year anniversary.

CMG will also release the results of their first-ever “CocoaFab Best in Beauty Awards” in January 2014. Crowning the best makeup, hair care, skincare, fragrance, nails, body products and stores for young Black women, the beauty team will announce the winners in a series of videos, articles and robust social media integration.

The company is also pleased to announce they completed their first year with record-breaking traffic of over 4.5 million unique visitors in the month of November and their celebrity interviews and original web series are now available as Apple iTunes podcasts.
