Annually, The Hollywood Reporter features roundtable discussions with leading actors, actresses and directors. Typically devoid of people of color, Black-ish star, Tracee Ellis Ross got a seat at the table which also included Gina Rodriguez, Lena Dunham, Ellie Kemper, and Kate McKinnon.
The 42-year-old unapologetically shares her experiences with racism and sexism in Hollywood. She also tells a story of an audition which left her feeling humiliated after a casting director insisted she dress more provocatively than she was comfortable with.
It’s also awesome to witness Lena Dunham, creator of HBO’s Girls, show her respect and adoration for Mara Brock Akil’s ground breaking series, Girlfriends. Ross also adds that working with Akil and her fellow Girlfriends cast members raised the bar for the types of roles that she would choose to play in the future.
