Lifetime’s Whitney Houston biopic just started shooting, and star Yaya DaCosta already has the iconic singer’s look down.
In the first image released from the film, DaCosta, who starred in “Lee Daniels the Butler,” recreated the pop star’s 1987 “Whitney” album cover.
With curly hair, blue eyeshadow and bright red lips, the 31-year-old actress and America’s Next Top Model alum perfectly channels the singer’s 1997 Whitney album cover look. She also looks right at ease cradled in the arms of Arlen Escarpeta, the 33-year-old actor playing Bobby Brown on the small screen.
“I just looked at the picture and did the pose,” the former ”America’s Next Top Model” contestant told Entertainment Weekly.
The film, which is being directed by Angela Bassett, focuses on Houston’s relationship with Bobby Brown and does not address the singer’s untimely death.
Bassett told CNN that she went with newcomers for the roles of Houston and Brown and see them as true lovebirds caught in the whirlwind of Hollywood.
“I really just want to tell a story about a boy and a girl who fell in love,” she explained. “And these are the words and this is the place, and these are are the people on the outside, you know? And I want to be as honest as I can about about doing that.”
